Do you know what CrossFit is? Did you know that I CrossFit? If you want a demonstration of CrossFit, here is a highlight video from the 2011 CrossFit Games. I am not that awesome! It’s actually kinda surprising that I have never mentioned CrossFit on my blog before. I also don’t really talk about the fact that I eat Paleo, with the exception of string cheese (favorite part of my day, and yes I actually string the cheese like a child), organic yogurt, and taste testing all these deserts I make. It weird that I don’t talk about it, because it’s a huge part of my life. Other than hanging out with Trent, going to work, and cooking, CrossFit is my life. My gym members are my family and best friends. It’s really hard for me not to talk about CrossFit all the time, and I don’t do a good job at not talking about it. When Trent gets home from work I can’t wait to tell him if I’ve had a good day at the gym. I am like a child that got all A’s on my report card.
The only reason I am bring it up now is because my outlook on CrossFit is begining to change. Finally, I am starting to feel like a real CrossFitter. I feel strong, athletic, and accomplished. I have been taking my workouts very serious for a while now and I am making improvements every week. I have shaken the feeling of being an imposter! I am not afraid to tell people I eat paleo. I am okay with the fact that paleo isn’t always the most sustainable way for the world to eat, it’s hard for a lot of people, and most importantly I am okay with the fact that I don’t ALWAYS eat perfect.
With that said, now is a time for change. I am participating in a nutrition challenge with my fellow CrossFit on the Plains members. I have also signed up for the CrossFit Games Open. The Open is the first step in getting to the Games. It is open to everyone, so don’t think I did something awesome to get to this point. I just paid them 20 dollars and they are going to let me abuse myself! The Open will consist of five workouts over five weeks. The Open’s top 60 athletes in each region move on to the second stage of the competition, Regionals. Now this is scary because my name is going to be alongside some of the best athletes in my region, and I don’t expect my score to be among theirs. I may have a good week, but I am almost certain there will be something I can not do and that is OKAY with me! The result is not as important as the motivation to clean up my diet and work harder to be a better athlete. Who knows, maybe I’ll surprise myself! I will be posting my results for each week here. Welcome to the first round of the CrossFit games, maybe one day I’ll get to the second round!
